The Algarve - Situated in the south of Portugal, the Algarve stretches out from East to West and offers a dramatic landscape, warm seas and sunshine, making it one of the top destinations for people looking to book a holiday rental in Portugal. Portugal has also become well know for its love of music festivals which encompass a wide variety of tastes and cultures from traditiona fado (associated with Portugal guitar) to the summer festivals such as Festival do Sudoeste in Zambujeira do Mar, Festival de Paredes de Coura in Paredes de Coura, and Rock in Rio in Lisbon.

Weather in Portugal

Portugal offers a Mediterranean climate with warm sunny days and mild winters. Summer temperatures in the Algarve can exceed 30 °C, whilst in Alentejo and Alto Douro temperatures of 47 °C have been recorded. However the north of Portugal offers a milder climate even in the summer months, whilst offering a ski season between January and March. With such a temperate climate Portugal is a pleasant destination for beaches, golf or a gentle stroll around its many cities and villages.

How to get to Portugal

The three main airports in Portugal are Lisbon, Porto and Faro. Whilst most scheduled carriers operate a daily service to Lisbon and/or Porto. Visitors looking to travel to the Algarve will find many reasonably price flights into Faro Airport with operators such as Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch or British Airways amongst others. Portugal’s national airline is TAP and they operate flights into Lisbon, Porto and Faro from a variety of countries. To reach Portugal by train, the quickest way would be to take the Eurostar. If travelling by bus Eurolines operates an extensive network throughout European destinations.
